New book displays!

If you have been to the YA section of the library recently you might have seen new book displays!

The books that were chosen for the “Fall in love with a book this Valentine’s day” are popular YA books about love and relationships and all that Valentine’s Day celebrates. Many highly rated good reads in there!

We celebrate Black History Month. The YA selections honour the contributions of black authors, their history and their experiences! Many great books are displayed.

The YA Steampunk book display may seem intimidating at first since the books are so long, big and heavy! If you haven’t read any Steampunk books yet I suggest trying to see if you like them.

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science-fiction. It is usually set in an anachronistic Victorian or quasi-Victorian alternate history setting. It can also be described by the slogan “What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner.” Steampunk includes fiction with science-fiction, fantasy and horror themes. These books are often set in an alternate history which sounds pretty cool to me! I admit, I have never read a Steampunk book but putting this display together has made me read the genre.

A fourth display is about mental health.  It features YA books and DVDs that have characters that deal with various mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia among others. Reading about mental health not only breaks stereotype but also gives readers knowledge about mental health, which is beneficial when it comes to understanding other people as well as understanding oneself.

I hope that you check these books out before the other displays replace them. It would make me happy! Tell me what you think of these selections in the comments!
